Minor chips smaller than a quarter and cracks less than one inch in size can often be repaired. However, larger or multiple cracks, chips in the driver’s line of sight, or damage at the edge of the windshield typically require a full replacement for safety reasons.
Driving with a damaged windshield can impair your visibility and the windshield’s structural integrity in a collision. It can also affect the deployment of passenger-side airbags, which rely on the windshield for proper deployment angles during accidents.
The duration of a windshield repair can vary depending on the complexity of the service required. For minor repairs, such as small chips or cracks, the process typically takes about 30 minutes. More extensive repairs or replacements, especially those involving recalibration of ADAS systems, can take up to 3 hours to complete.
It’s crucial to allow the adhesive to set before driving. Depending on the type of adhesive used, ambient temperature, and humidity, wait times can vary. Your technician will give you the proper drive away time depending on your specific needs.
The cost can vary widely based on the make and model of the vehicle, the type of glass used, and whether the windshield has built-in ADAS features. It’s advisable to get a quote using this form so we can understand your exact needs.
Yes, if your vehicle is equipped with ADAS features that rely on cameras or sensors mounted near the windshield, recalibration is necessary every time the windshield is replaced to ensure the systems function correctly.
Common systems that may require recalibration include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning systems, collision avoidance systems, and traffic sign recognition. Each of these systems relies on cameras that can be affected by changes in windshield angles or positions.
We do not recommend washing your car for at least 24 hours after windshield or glass replacement or repair to allow the adhesive to cure fully. If you leave your car out in the rain, that should be okay but avoid hand-washing and machine washing to avoid excessive pressure and chemicals mixing with the adhesive.
